Why buyers source mirror defogger pads from us
Square, rectangular, round and custom pads, with a power density of 1.5-2.5 W/dm² and a listed temperature rise of 10-20 °C.
Mirror switches with a defogger key and relays let you control the pad and the light from one touch panel.
Pads for AC 230V, AC 120V, DC 12V or DC 24V supply. Standard items from 2 pcs, shipped in 7-15 days.
How to choose
- Pick a pad size that covers the area that must stay clear, usually the face area of the mirror.
- Match the pad voltage to the mirror: AC mains, or the same 12V / 24V DC as the LED driver.
- Switch it with a mirror touch switch that has a defogger function, or with a relay.

How it is wired
How do I work out the power of a defogger pad?
Pad power is power density multiplied by area. Work in square decimetres: 1 dm is 100 mm, so a 300 x 300 mm pad is 3 dm x 3 dm = 9 dm². At the listed 1.5-2.5 W/dm², that gives 9 x 1.5 = 13.5W up to 9 x 2.5 = 22.5W for the TSP-3030.
The 300 x 400 mm TSP-Defogger Pad-I is 3 dm x 4 dm = 12 dm², which works out at 18W to 30W; its listing gives a 25W maximum. For the 300 mm round TSP-D30, area is π x radius², so π x 1.5² ≈ 7.07 dm², or about 10.6W to 17.7W; its listing gives 18W. Use the figure on the pad's label for final sizing.
Current then follows from the supply voltage. A 25W pad draws 25W ÷ 12V ≈ 2.08A on 12V DC and 25W ÷ 24V ≈ 1.04A on 24V DC, so the low-voltage wiring and the switch output must carry that current.
How is a pad wired with the mirror light?
The pads are listed for AC 230V, AC 120V, DC 12V or DC 24V. Order the pad for the voltage that is already on the mirror. On a mirror with a 12V LED driver, a 12V pad can share the driver as long as the driver is sized for the strip plus the pad. On a mains-wired mirror, an AC pad avoids loading the LED driver.
The pad leads are listed at 20 cm, and some pads have a connector. Plan the route from the pad to the switch or relay before the backing is fitted. Mains wiring must be done with the power off and by a qualified electrician.
Most of our mirror switches with a defogger key, such as the TD103 / TD103D, MTD-B02 and NBI-06, take 12V DC; the FWS-6D takes 24V DC and the TSP-003 is listed for 110V / 220V input. Check whether the switch's rated load covers the light output only or the light and pad together, and ask us if the product page does not say.
Where should the pad sit on the mirror?
Centre the pad on the area the user looks at, usually the face area at standing height, and keep it clear of the sensing pad of the touch switch and of any display window. Bond the whole pad surface to the glass so there are no air pockets, which cause uneven heating.
On round mirrors, the TSP-D30 round pad follows the mirror shape. For other sizes, the custom TSP-Defogger Pad is listed as made to size; send the mirror drawing with the clear area marked.
What mistakes should be avoided with defogger pads?
Ordering a pad at the wrong voltage is the costly one: a DC pad on mains will fail, and an AC pad on a 12V supply will not warm the glass. Other errors are sizing the LED driver for the strip only, routing pad leads where they press against the switch, and placing the pad over the clear window of a clock display.

Frequently asked questions
How does a mirror defogger pad work?
It is a thin heating film bonded to the back of the mirror. Warming the glass a few degrees above the room stops steam condensing on it.
Can pads be made to custom sizes?
Yes. Send the mirror size and the area to keep clear and we propose a pad size.
Which switch turns the pad on?
Use a mirror touch switch with a defogger output, or a relay wired to the mirror light. The defogger switch models are listed on this page.
Can the defogger pad share the LED driver?
Yes, on a low-voltage mirror, if the pad voltage matches the driver output and the driver is rated for the strip load plus the pad power. Add both figures, then choose the driver.
Does the pad work on any glass thickness?
The pad listings do not state a glass thickness range; ask us if your glass is unusually thick. The thickness limit that matters day to day is on the touch switch, which is listed for 1-5 mm glass on most of our mirror switches with a defogger key.
