12V 6A LED Driver (72W) for Large Mirror and Cabinet Runs
Updated 2026-11-01 · Shinechip engineering team
A 12V 6A driver delivers 72W, or about 57W of LED load at 80% loading. It suits a 6 m run of 9.6 W/m strip or several cabinet runs on one supply. Past this size, 24V is the better answer than a bigger 12V unit.

How to choose
- The step from 5A to 6A is small. Choose 6A when the calculated load lands between 48W and 57W; below that a 5A unit is cheaper and cooler.
- Above about 60W, the losses in 12V cabling grow faster than the driver price. A 24V supply at the same wattage halves the current and lets you keep 0.75 mm2 cable.
- Heat is the real limit inside furniture: leave the driver in ventilated space, not wrapped in foam or boxed against a cabinet back.
Frequently asked questions
How much LED strip can a 12V 6A driver run?
Up to about 57W at 80% loading: 6 m of 9.6 W/m strip, or 11 m of 4.8 W/m strip.
Should I use 6A at 12V or 3A at 24V?
Same power. 24V is better once the run passes 2-3 m because the voltage drop is a quarter of the 12V figure for the same cable.
Does the driver need a fan?
No. These are convection-cooled sealed supplies; they need airflow around the case, not a fan. Mount them where air can move.
