12V 5A LED Driver (60W) for Long Strips and Mirrors
Updated 2026-11-01 · Shinechip engineering team
A 12V 5A driver gives 60W. At 80% loading that is about 48W of LED — around 5 m of 9.6 W/m strip. On runs longer than 3 m, check voltage drop at the strip end, or switch to a 24V system where the current halves.

How to choose
- 5A is where cable sizing starts to matter. 3A on 0.75 mm2 is fine over 3 m; 5A on the same cable over 6 m loses close to 1.4V at 12V, which shows as a colour shift toward warm at the far end.
- Wide-input models (100-250V AC) suit export orders where the same batch ships to 110V and 220V markets — one SKU instead of two.
- For a large mirror, put the driver close to the strip and run mains to the driver instead of 12V over distance. It is cheaper than thicker copper.
Frequently asked questions
How many LEDs will a 12V 5A driver run?
It depends on W/m, not LED count: 60W at 80% is about 48W, so 5 m of 9.6 W/m strip or 10 m of 4.8 W/m strip.
Can I dim a 12V 5A driver?
Only if the driver is specified as dimmable and matches the dimmer protocol. A standard constant-voltage supply will flicker or drop out on a triac dimmer.
What is the difference between 5A at 12V and at 24V?
Same 120W potential, but 24V needs half the current, so thinner cable and less drop. The strip must be a 24V strip; you cannot mix.
