12V 2A LED Driver (24W) for Mirror and Cabinet Lighting
Updated 2026-11-01 · Shinechip engineering team
A 12V 2A driver supplies 24W. With the 20% headroom we size for, plan on about 19W of LED load on it — roughly 2 m of a 9.6 W/m strip, or a 1.2 m mirror run with a little to spare. Anything above that needs a 3A or 5A model.

How to choose
- The rating is a ceiling, not a target. A 24W driver run at 22W sits at its limit with no airflow behind a mirror, and that is where the electrolytic capacitors dry out first.
- At 12V, 2A is 24W. The same 24W at 24V draws 1A, which is why long runs are usually specified at 24V — see the 24V options if the driver has to sit more than 2 m from the strip.
- If the load includes a defogger pad, do not put it on this driver. Pads are typically 40-60W and belong on a separate mains circuit or a dedicated defogger output.
Frequently asked questions
How many watts can a 12V 2A driver run?
24W at full load. We recommend keeping the LED load at or below about 19W (80% of rating) so the driver runs cool inside a cabinet or mirror back.
Is 12V 2A enough for a 1.2 m LED strip?
At 9.6 W/m a 1.2 m run draws 11.5W, which leaves comfortable headroom on a 24W driver. At 14.4 W/m the same run is 17.3W, still inside 80%. Above about 2 m of high-output strip, move to 3A or 5A.
What if my load is over 24W?
Step up to a 12V 3A (36W) or 12V 5A (60W) model, or switch the run to 24V and halve the current. Both options are on our power supply page.
