IP44 LED Driver for a Bathroom Mirror: What the Rating Covers
Updated 2026-11-01 · Shinechip engineering team
IP44 means protection against solid objects over 1 mm and water splashing from any direction. Behind a bathroom mirror, condensation and cleaning spray are the real risk, so an IP44 or IP55 constant-voltage driver is the correct choice rather than an IP20 open-frame unit.

How to choose
- IP20 is for dry cabinets. In a bathroom the driver sits in the coldest spot in the room and collects condensation every shower, which is why unsealed boards fail at the input terminals first.
- The rating protects the enclosure, not the connections. Keep cable glands tight and mount the driver above the floor of the mirror back, not at the lowest point where water collects.
- Zone rules still apply: a mirror-back driver is normally outside the shower zone but inside the room, so an RCD-protected circuit and a sealed driver together are the practical minimum.
Frequently asked questions
Is IP44 enough for a bathroom mirror?
For splash and condensation yes, provided the enclosure is intact and cables enter through glands. Direct spray from a shower head needs IP65 or a different location.
Can an IP44 driver go inside the mirror?
Yes, and that is its usual place. Leave the case exposed to air, do not wrap it, and keep it away from the defogger pad.
What load does the IP44 model carry?
The LB series is a 12V 4A (48W) constant-voltage driver; at 80% loading that is about 38W of LED strip.
