A slim driver is chosen for where it fits, not for a different electrical spec: the same 12V constant-voltage output in a low-profile case. The trade-off is heat — less surface area means the case runs warmer, so keep the 20% headroom and leave air around it.

How to choose
- Measure the gap before choosing: plinth voids are often 20-25 mm, mirror backs 15-30 mm. Pick the case that fits with 10 mm of air on the long edges.
- Slim cases have less surface to dissipate heat, so the same wattage runs hotter than a standard box. Derating to 80% is not optional in a closed void.
- If the void is sealed, add a vent or move the driver to the cabinet interior where air moves. A hot driver shortens capacitor life faster than any other factor.
